A few of my favorite Blogs!

When I sat down to write my “Monday Blog” I honestly had a brain freeze! I couldn’t get motivated…. I hate when I’m like this. Usually I have some sort of idea in my head what I want to write about. I looked at a few things that I use ….that  are my “go to” for inspiration, still I just couldn’t wrap my head around an entire blog idea.

I usually have some sort of idea in my head what I want to write about. I just couldn’t wrap my head around an entire blog idea. So I decided rather than just throw something out there, and write about something that I didn’t really feel from my heart, I would do a best of blogs!

I’m going to  pick five different blogs that I’ve written over the last 2+ years and share them again with you. I have different reasons  why I picked each of these blogs, but I think you’ll get something from each one of them. I wanted it to be varied, I wanted it to be a broad overview of just what AwesomismMom has been about, and how we’ve evolved from when we started till now.

Soon we’re going to be unveiling our new project Team Awesomism…..  I’m so proud of how far we have come. We started with  a “therapeutic blog” and soon we are going to be unveiling some really awesome projects!

Thank you so much for being a loyal reader and for following us on social media!  Your support means more to me than words can express. I hope you continue to follow us and support us!

Please sign up for our newsletter, which will be coming soon.  I promise more details will be coming soon about Team Awesomism,  as well as our newsletter and some other really cool surprise we have planned!

Hope you enjoy these five best of blogs!  I even snuck a blog in the Peyton  wrote! I picked these different blogs for different reasons …when we introduce Team Awesomism,  I think you’ll understand better why!

I loved reading through them because not only does it bring back awesome memories, but I get to see how much we’ve evolved and advanced since we started blogging, and that’s exciting to me.

The Dog ate my Blog!

The Dog ate my Blog?!? Well, it’s a bit silly,  I know! I was trying to think of what I was going to call this blog…

I tossed around several different ideas… uh oh I failed….wait..what it’s June 11? Stop the presses … and several others! I decided The dog ate my blog was kind of catchy, funny and sounded the best. I’m sure you are wondering what this all means!

When I was younger it was a silly saying when you didn’t do your homework, you would use that as an excuse! I think we all know the dog didn’t REALLY eat my blog…

The truth is, I didn’t meet a deadline, that’s right I failed. I have several good excuses errrr I mean reasons… but I won’t bore you with them!

What deadline did I miss? Getting everything ready to launch Team Awesomism. I contemplated just putting out something… anything…

I decided that really wasn’t a good option as it would be a bad “first impression” of the project. I’m very committed to Team Awesomism and I want it to work. Throwing something out there isn’t how I want to start this!

I hope you forgive me and hang on for a bit longer… how much longer I’m not exactly sure. My hope is that it will be ready to “launch” by July 1st, maybe even sooner!

There are many “moving pieces” to Team Awesomism and I need to get them all in place before I launch. A couple of these “pieces” are taking longer than I expected. The good news is they are coming together, better than I had even hoped for!

Thanks for reading this blog, for understanding and I really look forward to launching Team Awesomism, when everything is ready! I’m really excited about this project and I want it to be done right. You only get one chance to make a first impression!

If you haven’t already joined my mailing list… please do! I’m on twitter, Flipboard, instagram and Pinterest as AwesomismMom.. I’d be honored to have your follow. I’d love to connect with you on LinkedIn as Lynne AwesomismMom  My email is Lynne@awesomismmom.com feel drop me a note, a question, a word of encouragement or even a criticism! I’d love to hear from you!

No more excuses, I promise…I have to get back to work… to Get Team Awesomism ready to launch 🚀  ……..Have an awesome day!

Peyton….Autism….Perseverance

I came across this quote the other day “ Great works are performed not by strength but by Perseverance” Samuel Johnson

I immediately thought about Peyton and one of the things I admire most about him.. His Perseverance. He is adamant on Persevering, not necessarily the way you and I are, but in his own awesome way.

When he was 4, I was told he’d never read, write and probably not speak. While I was determined to help him in any way I could, I also accepted that if he didn’t read, write or speak that was okay. I was hoping he’d be able to do 2 of the 3… for his sake, not mine. I just wanted what was best for him.

i knew it was never going to be easy for him, but I also knew we were all in it to win it. My older kids and I were really committed to supporting Peyton in any way  we could. We were his biggest support system, and we joined forces for him!

Fast forward to June 2018… Peyton is  graduating  High School with all A’s and B’s! And guess what? He reads, write and speaks!  He is knocking so many obstacles out of the park everyday. His senior year of High School has been his best year! Trust me,his classes are difficult and intense. It seems the bigger the obstacle, the harder he fights.

He has been so determined to Not let things get in his way. This isn’t to say it’s always been easy, it hasn’t. He has had setbacks and difficulties. He’s lost faith in himself and others, then again who among us hasn’t?

One thing I’ve seen and touches me the most is, his perseverance. He keeps on and on,until he overcomes the negatives. Like I said before, it may not be the way we think it should be done… but that’s okay!

merriam-webster definition of perseverance is:

: “continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition : the action or condition or an instance of persevering: steadfastness”
no where in the definition does it say… there is only one way to achieve/overcome!
Peyton is my inspiration and drive for AwesomismMom, Team Awesomism…. and most of all he’s the perfect example of “Turning Autism into Awesomism” I’m so proud of him. I can’t believe he’s 18! He’s my “baby” knowing he’s out of High School excites and scares me.
We are starting  a new chapter in his book of life. I know there will be obstacles, challenges, successes and new achievements. Being an autistic adult isn’t something he or I have experienced before. We will face each day like we have the past… one day at a time.  I also know he isn’t facing his future alone. He has a strong support network around him, who truly love him!
I also know this…. no matter how difficult it may get… Peyton will persevere, because that’s what  Peyton does… he perseveres. As his mom ( and biggest cheerleader) I honestly couldn’t be prouder of him!

Flipboard and Turning Autism into Awesomism

Before I say anything I want to post a disclaimer:

I am not, nor have I been a therapist. I’m a mom of an autistic teen, Peyton, who is 18 1/2 years old. Okay, now that we have that out-of-the-way, we can discuss the Awesomness of Flipboard and how’s it Helping us Turn Autism into Awesomism! 💙

Anyone who knows me or follows me on twitter, knows I am obsessed with Flipboard… allow me to explain why!

When Peyton was younger we did “Magazine Therapy” ….. it wasn’t really THERAPY, but it is the EASIEST way to describe what we did! Now you understand why I had my disclaimer… I don’t want any misunderstandings.

Okay so what is Magazine therapy? It’s easier to show than explain, but I’m going to do my best, because it was awesome for Peyton. Peyton was a very late talker.. he was also a late reader. His vocabulary and comprehension of so many things, was delayed and or nonexistent.

As his Mom this tore my heart out. I saw the pain in his eyes. I wanted to help, but wasn’t sure how. The traditional ideas weren’t working.

I had a friend suggest to me to have him look at magazines. She had an autistic son and she said it calmed him and seem to help him. I became obsessed with trying this. So off to Barnes and Nobles I went.

I came home with a pile of magazines… Peyton and I sat on the couch and started through the magazines. To my delight he was interested! He sat there with me thumbing through pages. I described and named objects on each page…

Peyton sat silent… but he was intensely looking at each page. After an hour or so… I said “okay did you like that!” He smiled and said YES! I knew we had a winner!

I started doing this everyday with him. He seemed to really like “Town and Country” Magazines, so I focused on those. He learned so much from magazines and to this day, I’m a huge fan! I know I’ve written about this before… November of 2016 to be exact… but there is a reason why I’m bringing this up again.

Here is that blog .. I know some of it’s repetitive, but trust me… it’s so important that 2,3 ….. times…. is okay!! http://www.awesomismmom.com/flipping-autism-into-awesomism/

I’m sure you’re asking yourself right now… why is this so important? That it needs repeated blogs… because Flipboard is an awesome tool for autistic teens and adults, for so many reasons!

Okay so now you’re saying TELL US why and how!  Remember when I said earlier in this blog it’s easier to show than tell? Well, that’s exactly what Peyton and I are planning on doing!

We are going to be introducing our new project “Team Awesomism Turning Autism into Awesomism” a teen and adult version of “Magazine Therapy” Here are just a few of the topics we will covering… Life Skills.. Social Skills… Anxiety….It will be learning in a fun, unique and awesome way! We are super excited and will be releasing this soon! Please watch for our kickoff of TEAM Awesomism!

If you’re not sure what Flipboard is or how to use it,here is a blog by my husband that will help. 😊
