Lloyd’s Thanksgiving Motivation

I am so happy and honored to have Lloyd as my guest Blogger… he inspires me everyday! he is an autistic adult, who is blind in one eye. He has gone through so many challenges in his life, yet he gets up every morning happy and is always there to help others. Thanksgiving will be upon us all very soon. So many in this country has gone through a great deal of good, bad, & in between. My family & I have gone through a great deal of many things.

We lost love ones so dear to us. We dealt with health issues involving love ones. We have & are dealing with issues that cannot share with others, but God truly know what we are going through.
Last month I took a vacation with my aunt & uncle in TN. I have never had a vacation that I can remember. We almost lost our mom but God healed her, she still have a few issues involving her health & we sure do need the prayers in more ways than one.
There are or could be others who are or going through what we are going through right now. I will try tell you this, don’t give up! It WILL be tough & hard but you can make it!
While we all go through these moments in our lives, just stop for a moment & give thanks for any & all who have helped you & what you have. Be cause there are many who have nothing & who are alone.
I ask you all this, if you know someone who does not a have anyone in their life or who are lonesome, try to reach out to them. A little help from others can be a great blessing.
Two last things that I will share with you all before I close this blog.
Most suicides happen during the holidays, so if know someone who is going through a lot & you who are at risk, please I ask you reach out to them & help.
Lastly please pray for those who have an empty chair at their table this holiday season. The empty was once filled with a love one who is now gone. Please pray & thank you all!

Dutch Apple Pie Recipe

I absolutely love a true Dutch apple pie.. it is one of my favorite desserts… My oldest son is obsessed with it as I am! My other kids really love it too, but he and I absolutely could eat it every day!

I got this recipe from a Dutch cookbook that I’ve had for years and years is so worn parts of falling off it is full of “Food samplings” 😂😂 but it is by far my favorite cookbook… It is full of good Dutch recipes…

                                     

This is a great recipe for Thanksgiving… in all the years that I’ve been making this, there’s only been maybe one or two people that didn’t think it was absolutely awesome. It’s easy to make, and it tastes absolutely delicious and is a great addition to any Thanksgiving dinner, or event over the holidays.

Dutch apple pie

9 inch pastry shell, unbaked

Filling:

5-6 tart apples, sliced

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

2/3 cup flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup margarine

Preheat oven to 425°. Combine apples, sugar and cinnamon and placed in pie shell. Mix flour, brown sugar and margarine until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples and bake for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 and bake 35 minutes more.

When you go to take it out of the oven, the top will look so bubbly and the brown sugar will almost have a caramel like look to it… I absolutely love this recipe it reminds me a lot of an amazing apple cobbler, only with a better topping.

I sometimes serve mine in a bowl with ice cream on top… This pie is not only absolutely awesome when it’s fresh out of the oven, but it’s also even exceptionally good reheated. I’ve even eaten it without heating it up again.

Another thing that I’ve done is double up on the amount of the apples, cinnamon and the sugar… And added a little bit of brown sugar and to it put that aside… And at a later time I’ve used that mixture in a cast iron skillet and made fried apples with it. This is also a great side dish, especially over the holidays with ham and mac & cheese.

Don’t forget Thanksgiving

Too often we get all caught up in the “Christmas Holidays” and forget about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday… It truly is a time in the year where everyone stops and thinks about what blessings we have in our lives.

It seems that there’s so much negativity in the world these days, you can’t turn on the TV without seeing something negative about someone or something. People refuse to respect other people’s opinions etc. etc.… One of the things that I love most about the Thanksgiving time is this…It’s the one time of the year that we really emphasize being thankful for the POSITIVES in our lives… I’d love to see that carried on beyond just one day

If everyone would take the time to truly focus on what they are thankful for, I truly believe moods would brighten. I know with my GAD… I too often get so focused upon my anxiety and what is causing the anxiety and what I’m frustrated or angry or hurt about.… If I make a list of what I am thankful for it truly changes my mood… I would love to offer this for Thanksgiving…

I hope each one of us would pause everyday from Wednesday afternoon to Sunday afternoon the weekend of Thanksgiving and make a conscious effort Of not only expressing what we are thankful for… But that we show it!

There are so many ways we can show “thankfulness”

Send someone a positive email telling them why you are thankful that they are in your life…

Send a nice card in the mail… Yes, we too often  now just do things electronically.. it’s nice to go to the mailbox and get something positive…

Call someone that you haven’t spoken to in a while, tell them that though time has passed that you are thankful for the opportunity to “catch up”

Let’s show our gratitude and thankfulness by doing random acts of kindness this Coming Thanksgiving weekend!

Volunteer… Show others that you truly do care that they’re hurting. Help turn their sadness into thankfulness by knowing others care.

There are many people who are alone on the holidays… If you know someone invite them over.

Maybe you have an elderly neighbor who could use some help around their yard, In the warmer climates, in the colder climates maybe they need their sidewalk shoveled… Bring a neighbor something homemade.. like homemade chicken noodle soup… tell them I’m thankful for you…those little words and those actions can mean so much to people…

The best way to combat negativity is to be positive… So as we kick off this Awesomism holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Year’s let’s start it out with acts of thankfulness.

As we make out our  “what I’m thankful for this year list”… Let’s all add to it that I’m thankful that I made someone else’s day/week/year better by letting them know how truly special they are… Because nothing says care better than actions…

45 Awesomism Days of the Holidays

We are super excited to be doing the 45 Awesomism days of the holidays!

As I have discussed in previous blogs… I have GAD, general anxiety disorder… And Peyton is as everyone knows well…  is autistic.

The holidays can be very stressful for everyone, but it can be particularly stressful for those who suffer with anxiety.

Nowadays… The stores start decorating for the holidays and pushing Christmas and Thanksgiving already in July… I kid you not, Peyton and I were in a store in July and they were taking down their Fourth of July items and putting up Christmas already!!

That can really add to the stress and anxiety of the holidays, because it seems like as it comes sooner and sooner it gets more and more in your head about the holidays.

I absolutely love Christmas! It is my favorite holiday… I have always really decorated every house I’ve ever owned to the max… Peyton loves Christmas as well, and as I get older.. I get less and less inspired to do all kinds of decorating.. dragging all the boxes out of the attic… Although we call ours a Texas basement because it is a walk-able attic, so it’s not as difficult… But dragging everything down, scrubbing down the house.. putting everything that was Up away and then putting up all the Christmas decorations takes a lot of work!

However; to see Peyton’s face be so happy and so excited, it’s all worth it to me!

I decided that this year I was going to do a 45 day long blog/video/pictures/craft/ideas/recipes/tips on my Website!.We will have everything in one place on our website… Also, we will have a dedicated Flipboard Magazine, A dedicated Pinterest Board… we will be having daily items on Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin!

I’m by no means an expert on helping lower your anxiety and/ or your stress… but I do know that with me, when I see tips that I can use, such as other peoples ideas.. it really does take a certain amount of the anxiety out of my life… So that’s what I’m hoping to do here! Just inspire people and help maybe lower your stress level, lower your anxiety by providing so many different things that can help you during the holiday seasons!

We will be covering Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day… as well as a few other surprises!

Nature does not hurry

I absolutely love a good cup of tea and about a week and a half ago I was making myself a traditional medicinal tea.

I was feeling a little bit under the weather and had a sore throat, so I decided to make myself a really strong cup of throat tea. On the little paper tag of each teabag there was a saying and this particular bag it said “nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. By LAO Tzu.

This really got me thinking… There’s so much wisdom in that saying, nature doesn’t hurry… a flower doesn’t grow overnight… a tree doesn’t grow in a day… There’s so many things about nature that are very slow and methodical… Yet nature somehow always gets it done.

Sometimes it’s not things we want to have done such as hurricanes, bad storms, floods tornadoes etc. but other times there’s so much beauty in nature, we have some of the most beautiful flowers… the clouds are just gorgeous!

I love to lay down and look at the clouds in the sky and try to find either animals or cartoon characters or pictures within the clouds…

I’ve been fortunate enough that I’ve traveled into a lot of places in the world, and I’ve seen so many different parts of nature… I’ve seen lakes, I’ve seen Rivers.. I’ve seen mighty oceans I’ve seen mountains.. I’ve seen deserts… I’ve seen flatland’s.. I’ve seen Hill country.. I’ve seen unbelievably gorgeous Forests… And they all have one thing in common… they are there for our viewing, and for us to learn from, and for us to enjoy and for us to see.

The more I thought about that saying as I was sipping my tea the more I realized… I so often put myself on this list! I feel like I have to get this done, I have to get that done! Now there are somethings in life we have to get done.. like we have to pay bills on time, we have to make sure that we eat each day, that we take care of ourselves if we’re sick or just make sure that things are done!

We have to go to work, we have to cook or clean or do other Daily or weekly chores… I get that but there’s so many things that we put on our self each and every day that we feel like we are against a clock…

Or maybe we don’t vacuum the carpet today, maybe we put it off for a day or two… Instead of vacuuming maybe we go outside and sit and look at the clouds above… What is wrong with that? nothing!!

It allows us a time to mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally “ Grow“ I know for myself I need that time… I need that downtime. Time where I allow myself to refresh, to just relax to take life.. just one small step…

I have written other blogs about slowing down… Why run when you can walk… And I do try… But as I sat there with my sore throat drinking my medicinal tea, I thought to myself this “Could not have come at a better time… I don’t need to hurry… One way or another I will get it all accomplished”…

So my stress and my anxiety can be put on the back burner… And my mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health will be put on the front burner… Because at the end of the day nature doesn’t Hurry yet everything is accomplished!
