We Love Patti and Ricky and you will too!

A while back I came across a twitter account called Patti and Ricky. Here is their description from their twitter and website “PATTI + RICKY is an online shopping experience that offers stylish and functional designer products for individuals with disAbilities.” I was immediately interested in learning more about them. I looked at their website and was really impressed. You know how we hear the expression “find a need and fill it” Alex did this.. she did it in an awesome way. Her products fill needs in the special needs communities, but in a unique and positive way. I retweeted her and she immediately thanked me. Her thanks went a long way with me. It showed me how passionate she was about her business. Alex and I connected on DM and then on the phone. I was so impressed with her passion, excitement and knowledge. Her goals are from her heart, and I knew I wanted to work with her.

We decided on the call, that we were going to find a way to “work together” I explained to her that before I “endorse” any product I have to try them. I also let her know that if I don’t like items I will say so. Alex not only understood, but agreed with me. She asked what products from her site Peyton and I would be interested in trying. I told her I’d leave that up to her. She asked me a few questions and figured out what products to send to us! A couple of weeks later a box arrived! Peyton and I were super excited to see what we received. In the box were the following items: Lavender roller, Headache roller, Willpower roller and Calm Spray, all made by Open Heart Apothecary! The box also included a beautiful pink crystal heart! I love all the products and can honestly say they work very well, but this isn’t just about me… so the next paragraph has been written by Peyton on what he thinks of the products!

My mom asked me to write an honest review of products we got from Patti and Ricky. Here is my review:

We use Calm spray which has 100% pure lavender oil, sweet orange, frankincense and Roman chamomile, on my pillow to relax me at night. Like the spray, the lavender roller has 100% oil of lavender and jojoba oil, I love both of them.
Couple weeks ago, I had a bad cold for a while, I had a stuffy nose, a sore throat and I was coughing in which I couldn’t sleep well at night because my nose was stuffed up and I was coughing. The best way for me to get rid of the head cold was to sleep a lot. I to slept with my comfort blanket that I just got from a company called Cmfrt,  and I sat on my Human Touch massage chair, both of them helped me sleep better . My mom used the calm spray on my pillow and lavender roller on my wrists, temples and under my nose, it really worked, it relaxed me!
I will keep using calm and lavender on me until they’re gone, because I don’t always sleep well! The one day I had a bad headache from my cold and I didn’t feel good, so I used the headache roller and the willpower one. The headache one has peppermint, clary, sage, lavender with jojoba oil, grape seed and apricot kernel oils, all are 100% pure! The Willpower has grapefruit, fennel and Roman Chamomile in jojoba oil, all 100% natural.  I only do natural, so it was great having these, because they really helped! I hope everyone tries their products because we really love them!

Peyton and I are big fans of Patti and Ricky and we truly hope you will be too! Here’s their website. Please check it out! Support a great small business and a great cause. Peyton and I want to thank you for reading our blog

Our CMFRT Blanket

On March 29th, I got a special box delivered to our home. In the box was an awesome  blanket from a company called Cmfrt. I was so happy to get the blanket, because I wanted to see if it would help me reduce stress and sleep better, just like my Human Touch massage chair does. When I was little, I had trouble sleeping at night all the time, and that’s because of my autism.Whenever I’m stressed about a bad storm, a test on my schoolwork or something that stresses me in general, I need to de stress. When I’m calm I do much better on my schoolwork and stop stressing over other things too. Getting a good night sleep helps me not stress as much.

I really love this blanket It feels really soft and is really comfortable. I really like the colors too, it actually matches my new room colors! The colors are also comforting. I also like that it can easily be washed in the washer because I’m sure as much as I’ll use it, it will get dirty. What I love most about the Cmfrt blanket is calms me down, it helps me with my autism, because it feels like someone is hugging me tight. The first time I wrapped it around me it relaxed me. I like wrapping myself up in it and watch TV or read my IPad!  It helps me relax before I go to bed. I also use it at night if I need to sleep, sometimes I can’t sleep and this blanket helps me sleep.  I can also take it with me when we travel, because sometimes I really have trouble sleeping in hotels, this will help!  It’s so comfortable and not too heavy, I also don’t get hot under it, I hate being hot. This blanket is helping me turn Autism into Awesomism!

I shared the blanket with my Mom too. She gets stressed and then gets migraines, one night she needed to sleep but was stressed so I gave it to her, she said she slept really well. She actually didn’t want to give it back hahaha! The one night we had really bad storms and our dog Hazel, who is half dachshund and miniature pinscher, and a rescue dog from the animal shelter, even slept under it with me! She’s always nervous during storms and this really helped her calm down! I’m going to have to hide my blanket or I think my mom will take it!   Hahaha even my sister, who lives in Germany wants me to send it to her!

If you want or need a blanket that is really comfortable and helps get rid of the stress, anxiety and calm you down, especially if you’re autistic, you should really try Cmfrt, They have lots of great comfort blankets,You should also visit their website and look at their blankets I’m sure you will find one you love. They have different weights that will match how much you weigh. It’s usually about 10% of your weight. Here is their website. https://cmfrt.us/  Please Check it out and you can also follow them on Instagram! I know you will love their blankets just like we do! Just be careful that your family doesn’t try to take it from you! Just kidding. If you have any questions you want to ask me about the blanket, you can. I’m going to be doing a video too about the blanket and how I use it, so please watch for it. Thanks for reading my blog and I hope you share it

Peyton’s Year of Awesomism

In September Peyton turned 18, this was a very big deal for him and the rest of us. I wrote a blog for his birthday about how much he stressed about turning 18.   http://www.awesomismmom.com/happy-birthday-peyton/         He calmed down some after several of us talked with him. Even though he calmed down some, it made me really start thinking about life from his perspective. While I can’t fully understand how he feels, being an autistic teen/adult, I can listen and try to understand. There are days I feel so overwhelmed at how much I have to do, then I look at Peyton and actually feel selfish. At times I fret over such petty things that can easily be fixed, just requires focus and time. Peyton faces obstacles I don’t always understand, yet he very rarely complains, he tries and tries until he succeeds. I deeply admire this about him.

A couple of months ago, I started thinking about how I could make Peyton’s 18th year special. I’m so proud of the person he has become. He has faced so many fears and obstacles and overcome them. When he was younger he was scared of dogs, seriously scared where he would cry, scream  and have a meltdown. It wasn’t until he was about 12 he decided to overcome that fear. Now he loves our dogs and is very attached to Tex. I’ve talked about several of his “former meltdown triggers” in past blogs like new shoes, haircuts, waiting in lines etc… Too many of us take these for granted that all kids will out grow these fears, stresses etc.. that isn’t always true for autistic teens and adults. This isn’t to say Peyton doesn’t still have fears, he does.  Swimming, riding a bike, mowing the lawn are just a few I can think of. I know it bothers him that at times he feels like he’s way behind his siblings. Mark and I try to encourage him to do what he feels comfortable with and to take initiative in trying new things. He sees his siblings doing so much… his sister backpacked all over Egypt, Israel and Jordan when she was 19. He knows he may never do anything like that. It isn’t even always the big things, it can also be simple things like going to a movie alone with a friend. He goes with his siblings, but he views that differently. He would like to go fishing alone etc..He has expressed to me he wants to have friends he can go places with, he wants to “feel more like an adult”

This why “The Year Of Peyton’s Awesomism” was created. He and I are working together and will share with others how he’s overcome so many obstacles, working on things that stress him and facing fears. It will be a year-long journey, where we share his struggles, strengths, bad times and good times. Peyton will be sharing this journey from his perspective as an autistic teen and I will be sharing it from mine. We will be working on his social skills, life skills and more. We would love to have you follow along! We will have many awesome adventures and some surprises! We hope we will motivate others as well! Fishing is for the rest of us!

Blog by Peyton White:

Fishing  is an outdoor sport in which a person tries to catch a fish by using a rod, a reel and bait. You normally start fishing in either a lake or a pond. Before I got into fishing, I watched the video about choosing the right fishing rods, fishing bait layer and such on YouTube from a channel called Fishing for the Rest of Us. https://m.youtube.com/fishingfortherestofus?uid=FcDiOaLOFAqVk9dP_NePmQ I subscribed to his channel to keep an eye on his new videos, so that I can watch them at anytime he uploads new ones. It will also allow me to keep learning how to successfully catch fish. Once I turned 18, I decided I would like to start fishing, because I wanted to start doing more outdoor activities. Then I really became interested in fishing, once I started watching his videos on YouTube. On January 3rd, Fishing for the Rest of Us sent me  a bag of soft fishing lures in the mail, so that I can use them to catch a fish. I was very happy to get these, and thought it was very nice of them. My parents and I are going to North Dakota soon, and we will be going fishing anywhere there’s a lake nearby us in Minot.

I have always really been into fish. When I was growing up, I used to have fish in my old fish tank aquarium, and I had several of them. I always took good care of them and fed them every day whenever they were hungry. I haven’t had my own fish since I was young. 2 years ago, me, my parents and my best friend went to the Downtown Aquarium in downtown Houston. We were guests of Tilman Fertitta who owns the aquarium, and he gave us the tickets to come and visit there. I had such a great time and learned so much, and I even made a Flipboard magazine about our day. I realized after going to the aquarium I really wanted to get more into fishing, because I have fascination with fish. It would also be great for me to do more outdoor activities, and it would help me de stress while I’m fishing. I can also go fishing with my dad and my oldest brother, as well as by myself. I’m looking forward to going fishing, I can’t wait to start. If you love fishing or interested in it, you really should watch Fishing for the Rest Of Us’s videos on YouTube and subscribe.

You can go fishing on the ocean, sea, small lake, ice fishing and such. What you need before you go are rods, lures, hooks, plastic worms and baits. Right now I have soft plastic lures, the gift I just got in the mail, and buckets. All I need is a rod which I don’t have yet. Me and my parents will find perfect rods for us in the store. We’ll try to find them at Bass Pro Shop, Dick’s Sporting Goods or any other stores that sell fishing stuff. My mother has a Flipboard magazine called Fishing is Awesome, you should check it out! I’m creating a Flipboard magazine called Fishing Adventure, and I’ll be adding articles and fishing videos. Please follow my magazine and keep up with what I’m doing. I will also keep rewatching the fishing videos on YouTube so that I can remember what I need to do to become a great fisherman. Thanks for reading, and I hope you follow my Blog at PeytonWhiteBlog.wordpress.com, my Flipboard account Peyton White, my Twitter account @mistermarvel99 and my Instagram account mistermarvel99.  http://flip.it/u02Fw9

Gone Fishing!

One of my favorite memories of my grandpa was the first time he took me fishing. I am a chatterbox and I remember him telling me I needed to be quiet. I remember thinking hmmm… I wasn’t sure I was going to like this activity! Once that first fish grabbed my line, I was hooked..hahaha  yes, I know cute play on words..but I really did enjoy it, because I felt a sense of accomplishment. When I was growing up, my dad used to go to Canada every year on a fishing trip with one of his best friends. My dad loved fishing, it was his escape from the stresses of his day-to-day life. He enjoyed that time with nature, the peace and quiet and time away from life’s pressures .I loved when he went because he’d bring me moccasins and I have always loved moccasins. Now as an adult I truly understand why he loved it!

When Peyton decided he was interested in fishing I was really happy! I think it’s a great activity for him to get involved in. Peyton is quiet so he has that going for him… haha.. he has patience and doesn’t get easily discouraged. Fishing is a marathon sport not a sprint. I can remember my older kids competing in fishing competitions and telling them, it may take hours before they caught anything. They weren’t always happy with that, but it taught them patience. Peyton has always loved fish, when he was younger he had an aquarium, he really loved it. He named each of his fish and took great care of them. Aquariums are very calming for him. One of his favorite times ever, was when we went to the Houston Aquarium, as guests of Tilman Fertitta. We even have a blog about our day on the website. Peyton loved learning about so many different types of fish. Every time we go somewhere and they have an aquarium, he has to stop and spend time looking at the fish.

I think fishing will be great for Peyton, because it’s a sport that is individually based, but can also be with others. Because it’s a “quiet sport” he won’t feel pressured to carry on conversations, this will be a stress relief for him. He loves fish, so he will also enjoy learning about the types of fish he’s fishing for. Being an outdoor sport is also a big positive. Peyton doesn’t always feel comfortable outside and this will help. Finally, one of the best things about fishing is it is calming, and that’s such a positive for him. We are super excited about this new “adventure” I’m sure we will have future blogs, as well as social media postings about his fishing adventures! Hope you will follow along!🎣🎣

Peyton and I follow an Awesome guy on social media…he does utube videos, about fishing! Peyton loves watching his videos and learns from them. I even watch them, and really enjoy them. Here is a link to his channel.. please check it out! Pass along to those you know who love to fish! https://t.co/Xsh9bXbc7b   Also, if you are on twitter you can follow him @fishin4restofus 🎣🎣
