Youth Fall Festival & Christmas Party..By: Peyton

Youth Fall Festival and Christmas Party

On October 2nd, I went to the Methodist Church Fall Festival at The Woodlands, and I had lots of fun. It was the first time I’ve ever been there. I didn’t know what the event would be like. I knew the church had good programs for kids with autism, down syndrome and other special needs. I didn’t know anyone there, and I was afraid I might not have friends, but I made 2 friends quickly: Austin and Jack. Austin mentors and talks to me a lot. He makes sure if I’m well taken care of and I’m enjoying myself. I really like him a lot. Jack is 17 years old, and he’s a FSU fan just like my family. Jonah, who is also my friend and has down syndrome, goes to the church. He is also in my bowling league, and I didn’t even realize that he goes to that church. When we first got there and did something fun, we prayed in the sanctuary room. We then had dinner, it was hamburger, nacho cheese Doritos and water. It tasted so good because I was really hungry and thirsty. After we finished eating, we went outside and played games. We played Hershey’s kisses count guess, we painted the pumpkins, we did horse race and such. I got to pick out some candies after I finished playing games. On the horse race, I won a medal, and I ran fast because I’ve been exercising for a year. My parents, my siblings and my friend Everett, were very proud of me that I won the medal. On the pumpkin painting, I’ve painted my little pumpkin, red, blue and magenta. Before I left, we ate popcorn and watched Peanuts Halloween Special in the sanctuary room. We really enjoyed watching it and eating the popcorn. Then my parents came and picked me up. I had such a good time. Even though I was a bit nervous to go.
Again on December 11th, I went to the Christmas Party, and I was really excited to go. I was glad that I got to see Austin and Jack again. I was also really happy that I got to see Jonah at the church again. Before we did something fun, we prayed. Then for dinner, I had chicken nuggets from Chick-Fil-A, green beans, corn and a biscuit. They were very healthy, and I love Chick-Fil-A. So I was really happy. For dessert, I had a big piece of Birthday cake. It was Ms. Kassidy’s birthday. After we finished eating, we went to the sanctuary room and laughed and sang Christmas songs: Jingle Bells and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. For crafting, I made my own snowman ornament. I made it with a ribbon, tiny hat and a string. It has a light nose that can be turned on and off. My mother hung my snowman ornament on our Christmas tree. In the kitchen area, we made cookies for the Harris County sheriff’s department, they picked them up and loved them. I was very happy that they loved them because I like doing nice things for the police. The cookies we made were vanilla frosting and red and green sprinklers. We watched Frosty’s Winter Wonderland cartoon in the sanctuary room. I really liked that movie.
I’m really lucky that there is a church like this. I think it’s so awesome that they care about autism and that they do have these kinds of programs. It makes me feel so special. I get to make friends there because they all have special needs like me, and we don’t have to worry about being bullied. They all have stuff in common with me. I think people who run the special needs church are awesome, because they make us feel safe and special.
